Company - Kata
Kata Company is a family-owned enterprise which has specialized in the field of radiation protection, PC-based monitoring applications and civil defence. The company was established in 1986, after Chernobyl nuclear accident. In the beginning it operated in Polvijärvi which is the home domicile of company founders Mr. Kauko Tanskanen and Mrs. Pipsa Tanskanen. Later operations were moved to Ylämylly which is located about ten kilometers west from Joensuu. Managing Director Kauko Tanskanen worked earlier in STUK (The Finnish Centre for Radiation and Nuclear Safety) developing radiation measurement systems.
Our clients consist from all social classes: The Ministry of Interior, STUK, fire & rescue service, nuclear industry, communes, hospitals, universities and other educational establishments, the Finnish National Rescue College, housing associations, other companies and private persons.
In it's earlier years Kata concentrated on developing portable radiation meters. During the years the product selection has expanded a lot. Today we have a large variety of products: radiation meters, in-house radon measurement systems, GPS-based monitoring systems, radiation accident simulating systems, monitoring & controlling systems for nuclear industry, dose area product meters for x-ray departments and statutory civil defence products for companies, apartment companies and institutions (civil defence products are for Finnish markets).
We develop solutions which are always based on clients special needs. In all our activities we try to keep on mind to be innovative and to have positive attitude on entrepreneurship. As an honor for our efforts we were pleased to receive a local Productive Idea prize during year 1988, commendation during year 1996 and golden key certificate of honour 2000.
During the twenty-fife years operating period Kata has exported it's products also abroad. The famous DGM-1500 Turva personal survey meter is well-known also in other Scandinavian countries, in The Baltic countries, in Russia, in Italy, in Canada, in South Korea, in China, in Japan and the Arab countries. The production is mainly done by professional subcontractors.
